The Summer Sound Wave Contest is a free song writing competition which provides an opportunity for aspiring songwriters to have their songs produced professionally by Techno Monkey Media, so that their songs can be showcased in an exciting way with just the sound that they envisioned for their masterpiece.

The contest is over for 2010, but check back next year!

The Summer Sound Wave Contest was created to nurture the musical talent of local Vancouver songwriters. Independent artists are often judged based on the quality of their recording and not their song writing genius. Having professionally produced music gives you the opportunity to expand your audience by having a sound that is up to professional standards.

Prizes

  • First Place: Two free fully produced songs.
  • Runner Up: One free fully produced song.

Submissions will be judged on creativity, originality, lyrics, melody, and arrangement, and not production value. Production and recording quality are not taken into consideration so do not be afraid to send us what you have right now, whether it was recorded in a studio or with a phone, laptop, or mp3 player. We want to hear your song writing genius – that’s what the Summer Sound Wave is all about!

Who

Techno Monkey Media is providing their professional audio recording and production services to two unsigned local artists who need a hand producing a demo so that they can generate more interest in their work and art, and have a solid sample for getting shows. Winning the Summer Sound Wave is the perfect opportunity for getting a leg up on creating a demo.

We are looking for artists who live within a reasonable distance of our studio in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. If you are entering the contest, you must be able to commute to our studio for the production sessions.

What

We will be taking submissions from any local artist on our mp3 upload form located at the bottom of this page. Winners will benefit from a campaign designed to give exposure and attention to their song writing abilities. All rights to original works will remain the property of the contest winners. We would recommend submitting two songs that showcase your personality and variety in your music writing, so that we can get the clearest idea of who you are as an artist.  Remember, you can submit as many songs as you would like.

Once we have chosen a winner they will receive:

  • 2 – 4 hours of consultation per song. This can / will include producer notes and a live screening and review of the song.  Also a style and image consultation, and a guide to putting a good press kit together.
  • 8 – 10 hours per song of recording session(s).
  • 4 – 8 hours per song to mix down including artist consultation.
  • 2 hours per song to review the mix.
  • 1 hour mastering session per song with the artist.
  • Techno Monkey Media publicity including the distribution of the winning tracks to all the other artists who entered.
